整体教学目标

Free Radical Biology and Medicine or redox biology has been an important subfield invovled in various aspects of biomedical sciences. This course will provide fundamental knowledge for the understanding on the basics of reactive oxygen species (ROS)/reactive nitrogen species (RNS) and the antioxidant systems in biological systems, role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of diseases, and the techniques for evaluating oxidative stress or oxidative damage.

教学方法

This is a class lectured in English, but questions and interaction in Chinese are allowed. Lecturers will prepare handouts for students. Open-book midterm will be given to examine how students understand the basic concepts of this field for the lectures in the first half of the class. As the end of the semester, students will be asked to provide a slide presentation video in class and a written report for the same topic as to how this field can be applied to various subfields in biomedicine of their interests.

课程介绍

上课教室在第一医学大楼11楼第二会议室。本课程的第一部分专注於自由基生物学之基本知识:ROS/RNS之化学性质和来源; 脂质、核酸、和蛋白氧化伤害及其产物之分析方法; 体内之抗氧化系统。在第二部分,我们会讨论此领域的各项应用,包含在培养细胞中和活体内评估氧化压力之方法; redoxomics之应用; 氧化压力在病毒感染、G6PD缺乏、心血管疾病、中風、和毒藥物毒性中的角色。最後,學生要做期末口頭和書面報告,討論如何將自由基生物医学應用在有興趣的主題。

成绩考核

Midterm exam (open-book exam): 50%; Final slide presentation: 20%; Final written report: 20%; Discussion and quuestions for slide presentation: 10%; Deductions of the final grade (2 points) for each unauthorized absence in the class
