研究方向及研究室特色

牙菌斑是人体内最常见的生物膜，而牙菌斑细菌也是引起龋齿及牙周病等慢性感染的病源。近年来多项研究显示多种全身性疾病如冠心病、脑中风及小早产儿的发生机率及严重性均与牙周病感染有关，暗示口腔感染会增加全身性感染的机率及危险性。本实验室的研究兴趣在探讨环境因子对口腔细菌生理、毒性分表现及口腔疾病发生的影响，并藉此资讯开发可控制口腔感染的药物疗法。我们对口腔链球菌如何参与并影响口腔生物膜形成，以及生物膜之生活模式对口腔链球菌各项活性的影响尤其有兴趣。為发展此方向之研究，我们利用连续性发酵槽来严格控制细菌的每一生长参数，并以多种生化及分生技术来观察口腔细菌基因的表现。藉由突变株及报导基因等系统，我们可分析单一基因在特定环境下的表现程度，再以基因体学、转录体学及蛋白体学等技术系统性地观察每一突变对整体基因表现的影响。我们主要的两个研究主题是：一、分析唯一具有第四型纤毛系统之链球菌种(血链球菌)之抽搐行為及此行為能力对血链球菌提供之優勢。二、分析血链球菌、唾液链球菌及咽峽链球菌如何以不同之生理活性來應對存活於口腔及血液所面對之挑戰。
